Echoing the calls from many Member States we, EU citizens, invite the Commission to prohibit by law, throughout the Union, the:

keeping and killing of animals for the sole or main purpose of fur production.
placement of farmed animal fur, and products containing such fur, on the EU market.

Why is this important?

This time of year is killing season in the fur industry. Animals throughout Europe, like dogs, foxes and minks, will be slaughtered for fashion. Most will be electrocuted or gassed, but some will receive lethal injections or have their necks broken. [1]

As if these horrific killings for fashion weren’t enough, there were also outbreaks of coronavirus on mink farms during the pandemic. This is clear evidence of the public health risks associated with fur production, like the mass spread of new viruses. [2]

But fashion brands like Louis Vitton, Fendi, and Dior make millions from coats, shoes, and handbags with fur sourced from European fur farms. And they will continue to profiteer from this deadly practice unless we put decent legislation in place. [3]

Now a massive campaign is taking shape across Europe calling for a new law to ban the production and sale of fur once and for all. [4] Signatures from local and national groups are flowing in, but they need a people-powered push from our community.
