Petition text
Setting up priorities for research and conservation of rare carnivores in Africa and Asia is crucial for saving the last populations of these creatures. Petition is mainly addressed to conduct first-ever studies on dhole Cuon alpinus in such newralgic places as Central China, where species was recorded in recent years. Another scientific project could be undertaken in the West African ecosystem, where last bastions of lycaon have survived. Project idea is notabene intro to pioneering study, which would be partnership work of academic institution and non-profit associations and would be a great milestone for understanding targeted species. Important outcome of the project would be to incorporate sustainable tourism in the wild regions, where carnivores are a main attraction and new solutions for coexistence with animals in the reserves. Make a difference in sustainable managment of natural resurces.
Why is this important?
We should introduce older and young European zoologists to a next step of studying the rare carnivores, worthy to protect for the future on their own. There have been great ideas for saving and researching dholes in Central China.
There are priorities for filling the gaps in knowledge about the endangered canid called Asiatic wild dog in wild sub-alpine regions of Min Mountains of Sichuan or from Daba Massif located in parts of Hubei province. We should understand how the creature lives and where in those landscapes and how threats it faces.
Another project would be looking for last bastions of lycaon in West Africa, in Nigeria´s part of guinea forest-savanna mosaic, which is de facto large area known as Makurdi or from Sahara region of the chadian Koro-Toro, where relatively unknown population of lycaon survived.
