The European Union must do everything it can to stop propping up Putin's wars. This means:

Not considering gas and nuclear as green
Reforming its fiscal rules to help governments invest in renewable energy, without breaking deficit or debt rules.

This will mean that Europe sets itself up for the future and energy independence.

Why is this important?

No one wants to finance Putin's war. But that’s what our leaders together with fossil fuel corporations are doing and have been doing for years.

Everyone is now calling for European energy independence, just like in 2014 when Putin attacked Eastern Ukraine. But in the last 8 years, the opposite has happened. Instead of reducing our dependence on Russian gas, the EU has increased it.

It’s now urgent to actually stop buying gas from Russia. But it’s also important to make sure we do not buy gas from elsewhere either, propping up other dictators and putting us all at risk.

In response to this terrible war, politicians are ready to take actions that days ago seemed too radical, impossible. In this moment, Europe must reduce its dependence on gas and nuclear and invest in renewables like never before. [1]
