To protect the health of children and youth, stricter rules for videogames are indispensable

We call for PEGI (Pan European Game Information), the VSC Rating Board in the UK and NICAM in the Netherlands to have more control over the age rating of video games, with particular attention to the characteristics of product-related advertisements.

Why is this important?

In 2018, the World Health Organisation added videogame’s addiction as a mental disorder due to too many hours spent in front of a screen. This pathology causes depressive symptoms, anxiety and social disorders.

Many of the young addicted gamers have seen their school performance deteriorate, they abandon real friendships and lose contact with reality, they invest all their energy in gaming, and some have even made petty thefts to finance their addiction.
