We ask that an independent epidemiological assessment be initiated around all European waste incinerators to propose their closure.

Why is this important?

Do you know that there is a wall of silence around the serious diseases that are generating burning plastics and other hazardous waste in incinerators in Europe?
Numerous epidemiological studies certify that living around 10 kms. from a waste incinerator, increases the prevalence of various cancers, lymphomas, mutations; and reproductive, respiratory and cardiac diseases.
I personally know cases of people who have become ill from exposure to toxic gases from garbage incineration.
However, in some cities this pathogenic contamination is dissimulated with that from traffic or industry. And the various interests involved in burning garbage lead to an institutional opacity, which hides death and suffering.
This silence must end in order to lead to a healthy and sustainable waste management.
