To the mayor of Gdańsk (Poland), Aleksandra Dulkiewicz, and to Gdańsk City Council

We urge you to immediately remove the monument of priest Henryk Jankowski from the Jankowski square in Gdańsk.

Why is this important?

In the 1980s, priest Henryk Jankowski was the vicar of St. Bridget in Gdańsk and the chaplain of the opposition trade union Solidarność. Recently, the media have revealed documented, indisputable cases of him using extreme sexual violence, including rapes and abuse of minors, from his early years as a priest until the very end of his life. On the night of 21 February, the monument of Jankowski was overthrown by three activists. The next morning morning, members of the Solidarność trade union returned it to its place.

On the comming session of Gdańsk City Council the councelors will vote on a resolution to remove of the monument. We, the undersigned citizens, call on the Mayor of Gdańsk and on the City Council to support this resolution and take away the shame it brings to the city and the entire country. Pedophiles don't belong on pedestals.

No amount of contribution, even to the best cause, can compensate for wrongdoing. Down with the monument!

Next step - spread the word
